About Youth and Junior Skills Camps

Youth and Junior Skills Camps focus on the fundamentals within triathlon's four disciplines. In the pool, campers will work on swim stroke technique, starts, buoy turns, navigation, and simulated open water swimming. On the bike, campers will practice cornering, climbing, descending, and braking, and be introduced to group riding and draft-legal racing skills. Run drills will focus on dynamic warm-ups, proper form, and pacing off the bike. Often called the fourth sport of triathlon, significant focus will be placed on mastering ITU-style flow through transitions with moving mounts and dismounts.

Campers will also learn about sports nutrition, how to structure their training, and how to keep triathlon in balance with school sports. Campers will benefit from working with coaches having specific youth triathlon education, training and certification while learning alongside peers who share their interest in the sport.

Athletic Prerequisites

While previous multisport experience is not required, campers should be able to swim 250 meters continuously, confidently ride a road bike with drop style handle bars (hybrid bikes and triathlon bikes with aero bars are not allowed), and run 2 kilometers (1.24 miles) without stopping.
