Recap: 2014 East Coast Triathlon Festival

Page Lester led the 13–15 year-old Youth Elite Females out of the water at the Richmond Youth Elite Cup and raced her way to a fifth place finish, qualifying for the 2014 USA Triathlon Youth Elite National Championship in her very first draft-legal triathlon. Others in the herd racing in their first draft-legal triathlon included Erin Bell, Abbie Furlow, Sam Furlow, Jack Knibb, Kat McNeill, Angus Ricks, and Peyton Vance. Bridgette Kim and Anna Lausch, with one and four draft-legal triathlons under their race belts, respectively, continued to build upon the momentum they started at the Clermont Draft Legal Challenge in Florida in early March. The East Coast Triathlon Festival is one of only three draft-legal Elite Cup races – and the only one on this side of the Mississippi – for triathletes to qualify for the USA Triathlon Youth Elite and Junior Elite National Championships in Ohio this August.

In total, 12 athletes represented the MINI COW TRI CLUB's High Performance and Competition Teams in the Junior Elite, Youth Elite, and Youth races. Benjamin Lausch posted an 8th place finish among all the 11–15 year-old males in the non-drafting Youth race after a strenuous morning cheering on his teammates.

The next opportunity for our Youth and Juniors to qualify for Nationals is the Monroe Elite Cup in Monroe, WA, on June 22. In the meantime, check out the East Coast Triathlon Festival gallery.

Follow Exciting Draft-legal Racing Online Sunday

MINI COW TRI CLUB's High Performance Team, MCTC Elite, makes its team debut this weekend at the Liberty University Online Academy East Coast Triathlon Festival in Richmond, VA. The East Coast Triathlon Festival is one of only three draft-legal races – and the only one on this side of the Mississippi – for triathletes looking to qualify for the USA Triathlon Youth Elite and Junior Elite National Championships in West Chester, OH, this August.

Eleven MCTC Elite triathletes will compete in the draft-legal Junior Elite (750 meter swim, 20 kilometer bike, 5 kilometer run) and Youth Elite (375 meter, 10 kilometer bike, 2.5 kilometer run) races. More than just draft-legal, these shorter, looped bike and run courses make the Elite format super exciting for family, friends, coaches, and teammates. Same Great Kids Triathlon, Now Under New Management

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to continue a long-running Columbia-based triathlon for kids, and one that has been a cornerstone of the Maryland Youth Triathlon Series. Formerly the TriColumbia Kidz Triathlon, the Columbia Association (CA) Kids Triathlon will build on the history of this event with a sprinkling of MINI COW TRI CLUB fun.

"CA looks forward to renewing our involvement in the Kids Triathlon and working with MINI COW TRI CLUB to relaunch this event for 2014," said John Herdson, Aquatics Director for Columbia Association.

Visit our CA Kids Triathlon event page for all the deets and a link to register online.

Columbia Association (CA) is a nonprofit service corporation that manages Columbia, MD, home to approximately 100,000 people. Columbia was founded in 1967 by James Rouse and his Howard Research and Development Company. Rouse sought to build a complete city that would respect the land, provide for the growth of people and, ultimately, make a profit. CA’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for people living, working, playing or learning in Columbia and to ensure that Columbia remains an open, integrated and caring community. MCTC Elite Heads to the Sunshine State

Only weeks after receiving USA Triathlon High Performance Team designation, MCTC Elite heads to Clermont, Florida this weekend to kick off its season at the Clermont Challenge. Anna Lausch and Bridgette Kim will represent MCTC Elite in the draft legal Youth F1 Super Sprint Race, a 375 meter open water swim, 10 kilometer bike, and 2.5 kilometer run. Partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid 70s will be a welcome change for Anna and Bridgette who only a week ago were riding in sub-freezing temperatures. And sleet.

The Clermont Challenge was founded by Professional Triathlete and 2008 Olympian Jarrod Shoemaker and legendary Race Director Bill Burnett.

Knibb joins MCTC Elite as Assistant Coach

We're thrilled to announce that Leslie Knibb will be joining the MINI COW TRI CLUB coaching staff for 2014. Leslie joins Assistant Coaches Jake Fox and Frank Fitzpatrick, and her primary responsibility will be working alongside Head Coach Christy Lausch to develop MINI COW TRI CLUB's High Performance Team, MCTC Elite.

Leslie brings more than 20 years of experience in running, swimming and triathlon, is a 19-time IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 finisher – five of those being World Championships – and holds a USA Triathlon Certified Level 1 Coach certification. As a wife and mother, Leslie understands how to balance family, work, school, and triathlon, and shares MINI COW TRI CLUB's coaching philosophy.

"We're super excited to bring Leslie onto our coaching staff as Assistant Coach. Leslie's coaching and personal experience will be an asset as we develop our High Performance Team during this important first year," said Head Coach Christy Lausch.

MINI COW TRI CLUB earned USA Triathlon High Performance Team designation earlier this year and will be fielding youth and junior triathletes at draft-legal National qualifying races in Richmond, VA May 4, and West Des Moines, IA July 13.
